Re-opening Alert: The once so popular East Village restaurant shop that was closed 14 moths ago, due to gas explosion, finally returns!
There have been several months of delay but its finally time to visit Pommes Frites new location in Greenwich Village. The owners, Suzanne Levinson and Omer Shorshi, recently announced that their new hotspot is to be located at 128 MacDougal St, this time featuring more deep fryers and seating. The introduction of extra equipment is hopefully going to reduce lines at this popular go to spot.
As for now the Belgian style café and restaurant is open, since last Monday, but with limited staff only. The owners wrote on Facebook “please bare with us as we organize ourselves and smooth our the kinks for the next two weeks” and asking for patience to get things in order. We might have to wait a few weeks before it can extend hours being that perfect late night destination for the night crawlers around town.
It was after the Second Avenue gas explosion, which destroyed the building, several apartments and sadly killing two people, that the closure was imminent. The authorities arrested several people for illegally setting up a gas line that was said to be the cause of the explosion. Levinsion says, in an interview with the times that she never mourned the loss of her business “When I think about what happened to us, I don’t think about us. I think about what happened to the young men”
The place now has an almost medieval feel over it with dark brown timber panels. Fries are served as usual with ketchup, onions, and frite sauce in different sizes (Regular $4,50 , Large $6,25, Double $7,75). We can’t wait to try them out again!
