Sunny Summer Outdoor Restaurants in NYC

Restaurants

by Chad Thomas

Quite simply, there’s no place better than New York come summertime. Sure, you could always opt for a friend’s rooftop or fire escape, but if you’re heading out to lunch mid-day, you ought to shoot for a spot where you can soak up some Vitamin D and work on that farmer’s tan.

Here’s a look at our favorite spots with ample outdoor seating.

Habana Outpost

Fort Greene

Habana Outpost

This spot’s seasonal, so they only open their fence up for customers in the summer months, but oh buddy, when they do, it’s one of the best times you can have in Brooklyn. A large patio plays host to live tunes, excellent Cuban food, and strong frozen margaritas that will have you singing along to every word by drink 3, even if you have no idea what the actual lyrics are. The prices are right and the grilled corn is money.

Santina

Meatpacking / West Village

Santina

Colorful umbrellas, palm trees, and Mediterranean cuisine make for the illusion that when you’re sitting outside at Santina you’re enjoying lunch on the Italian coast. Try anything from their signature Italian dishes to one of their signature cocktails or white wines. You can’t go wrong.

Birds & Bubbles

Lower East Side

Birds & Bubbles

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out what the name of this restaurant is referring to—or does it? Okay, it isn’t that obvious. We’re talking chicken and champagne here, and there’s plenty to go ‘round at Birds & Bubbles. Who knew that poultry and bubbly paired so well together? Perhaps it’s Birds & Bubbles’ unique, crispy batter, and swanky outdoor ambiance that really set the mood.

Berg’n

Crown Heights

Berg’n

If beer is your thing, and you like drinking it outside, it’s worth making the trip over to Crown Heights to have one sitting on the impeccable patio at Berg’n. You find a more eclectic collection in all of New York, and the fact that you can do it for a great price whilst sitting in the sunshine is a mere bonus.

Pier A Harbor House

Battery Park

Pier A

Picnic tables stretch out as far as the eye can see, adjacent to the Hudson at this waterfront restaurant. Excellent seafood and a complement of killer cocktails make this outdoor haven a must for warm days. We recommend either oysters or buffalo wings to pair with the drinks.

Grand Banks

Hudson River Park

Grand Banks

Grand Banks is, without a doubt, the swankiest establishment on our list. Wear your boat shoes and croakies when you head here, because you feel like you’re in the belly of a luxury sailing vessel. White accents and masts abound, and the view of Jersey City—yes, yes, but it’s still pretty epic—across the water may be one of the best spots around.

If the sun’s out and temps are above 65, you’ve got no business sitting indoors. Consult this list and choose wisely—or just close your eyes and put your finger down wherever. You can’t go wrong here!
